This was a quick project where I motorized an existing twist box and added it to myCobot as a gripper. The original twist box model can be found at this link.
The gripper is actuated with a MG996R servo motor and is controlled with the Raspberry Pi’s IO signals.
Since the gripper does not apply pushing force on the object being grasped, but rather a tangential force, it works very well in cases where it can be hard or undesirable to exert pushing force to grasp an object. For e.g., in case of soft objects or dense fluids.
